Proclamation 3 of 2026
Manicaland's Provincial Assembly of Chiefs was convened in Mutare on 11 June 2026 to fill Senate and National Council of Chiefs seats left vacant by Senator Chief Mapungwana's death.
The President has proclaimed how to fill two vacancies left by the death of Senator Chief Mapungwana (Anias Mapungwana), who had been elected by the Provincial Assembly of Chiefs for Manicaland to sit in both the Senate and the National Council of Chiefs.
The Provincial Assembly of Chiefs for Manicaland is convened on 11 June 2026 at the Chiefs' Hall, Mutare, at 10 o'clock in the morning, to elect another chief from among its members to fill the Council of Chiefs vacancy. It is also convened on 11 June 2026 at the Chiefs' Hall, Mutare, to elect a chief to fill the Senate vacancy.
The proclamation applies section 37(5) of the Traditional Leaders Act to both vacancies, and Part X of the Electoral Act with necessary changes, in line with section 159 of the Constitution, which requires a vacancy to be filled within ninety days.
It was signed on 28 May 2026 and gazetted on 4 June 2026.
