Assignment of Functions (Minister of Home Affairs and Cultural Heritage) (Amendment) Notice, 2024 (No. 1)

The National Heroes Act is added to the Minister of Home Affairs and Cultural Heritage's portfolio, to be co-administered with the Minister of Veterans of the Liberation Struggle Affairs.

This is a short constitutional assignment notice. It amends the Assignment of Functions (Minister of Home Affairs and Cultural Heritage) Notice, 2023 (S.I. 201 of 2023) by adding one item to the Schedule of Acts that Minister administers.

The added item is the National Heroes Act [Chapter 10:16], and the entry states that it is co-administered with the Minister of Veterans of the Liberation Struggle Affairs.

Nothing substantive in the National Heroes Act changes. The effect is administrative: it settles which Minister answers for the Act, signs its instruments and exercises its powers, and formalises joint responsibility with the veterans' affairs portfolio for national hero declarations and related matters.

No commencement date is stated. The notice was gazetted on 10 May 2024.
